Trainee Solicitor 2021-2023

I started my training contract in September 2021 so, more or less, just as the country was starting to come out of Covid. I had heard from friends who were trainees/associates at other firms that the majority of fee earners were still working remotely, so I was a little apprehensive about starting my first seat and whether there would be a regular office presence from supervisors. As it turns out, I need not have worried. One of the great things about the firm is that partners and senior fee-earners are in the office four to five times a week, which as a trainee, is excellent for learning and development. Not only does it facilitate communication within departments, but it is also a testament to the “open door” policy throughout the firm.

Irrespective of the department, trainees are always involved in client meetings whether in person or on Zoom. Moreover, you are encouraged to have ownership of your work and given responsibility from the start, which includes talking to clients. Although this can be initially daunting and can seem to be a sharp learning curve, it is a fantastic learning experience, and you are always supervised throughout.

Having now qualified, I can say with certainty that the experiences of training at Edwin Coe have enabled a smooth transition to life as a Newly Qualified. However, what is equally reassuring is that the support and supervision has continued, though tailored to aide my development as a Private Client Solicitor.
