Edwin Coe has been at the forefront of litigating competition issues in London for over 20 years under both the old regime of the Restrictive Practices Act and its replacement, the Competition Act. Whilst our work in competition litigation has tended to be for Claimants we have acted in landmark litigation in the Competition Appeal Tribunal in disputes with the domestic Regulator, the former Office of Fair Trading, now the Competition and Markets Authority.

In addition to standard competition litigation in the CAT or High Court we have also represented parties in Market Inquiries by the former Competition Commission, now the CMA.

For Claimants we are able to marry our competition experience with our expertise in financing litigation. This allows us to offer a variety of funding packages to our clients including contingent arrangements, third party funding and adverse costs insurance. No firm in London has greater expertise in the funding issues attaching to litigating competition issues.

Examples of our work in competition litigation include:

  • Claims for South American farmers relating to price fixing by the major airlines for air freight.
  • Challenge to the Regulator’s findings in:
    • High Street grocery retail
    • Sale of beer in licensed premises
    • Newspaper retailing
  • Market Inquiry in grocery retail.
