Zahira joined Edwin Coe as a Trainee in September 2006. She completed an undergraduate Law Degree at Oxford University where she obtained a 2:1.
Zahira qualified into the Commercial Litigation department in September 2008 and as Partner in 2020. She works for the Senior Partner, David Greene, assisting on a range of different cases. Zahira has experience of advising Claimants as well as Defendants. She primarily deals with contractual disputes but also has experience of advising clients in professional negligence and judicial review cases.
Zahira is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi and speaks conversational French.
- Zahira represented a committee member of the Northern Rock Shareholders’ Association in front of the Upper Tribunal. Zahira is currently advising investors who lost money in the Madoff fraud in relation to claims against their financial advisors. She represented one such investor in front of the Financial Ombudsman Service which found against Barclays Wealth, dismissing their appeal. The Ombudsman found that investment in Madoff was wholly inappropriate given the client’s attitude to risk.
- She is also involved in a group action which consists of over 400 clients whose claims are grounded in fraudulent misrepresentation. The claims are against Barclays Partner Finance and GE Money Consumer Lending Limited. Zahira is also advising clients who have been mis-sold hedging products by banks. She has assisted clients with negotiating standstill agreements where limitation is a concern and has also issued Court proceedings on behalf of clients.
- Zahira is also advising a client who lost monies which were invested with a City trader for the purposes of foreign exchange trading. The trader has subsequently been charged with fraud and other offences, following an investigation by the FSA. The Defendant is said to have spent over £200,000 of investors’ monies in one evening in a nightclub.
