On 17 December 2020, Rishi Sunak announced that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (Furlough Scheme) will be extended until the end of April 2021. The Scheme was originally set up in March 2020 and was extended again in November 2020.

The Extension

The Government will continue to extend the furlough scheme until the end of April 2021 and has announced that it will continue to contribute 80% of wages for hours not worked with employer’s having to pay the pension and NIC for those hours not worked.

This remains subject to the maximum of £2,500 per month for employees.

Eligibility under the Extension

The eligibility requirements of the scheme have not changed.
