Sophia Bompas

Sophia is an insolvency and restructuring specialist within Edwin Coe’s Chambers-ranked insolvency team. Sophia has extensive experience advising on contentious and non-contentious corporate and personal insolvencies. Her broad insolvency practice sees her acting for clients across a range of industries and sectors, including insolvency practitioners, creditors, debtors, banks, directors of financially distressed companies, as well as individuals in financial difficulty.

She also advises clients on a variety of commercial litigation matters, including shareholder, corporate and contractual disputes.

Sophia is a member of R3 (the trade association for the insolvency and restructuring profession in the UK) and IWIRC, and sits on the R3 New Professionals committee. Sophia has lectured insolvency practitioners and lawyers at R3 conferences and regularly delivers legal update seminars direct to client firms. She has previously captained the Edwin Coe netball team.

Having joined Edwin Coe as a trainee in September 2012, Sophia qualified in September 2014. During her training contract, Sophia completed seats in property, commercial litigation (including group action litigation), corporate & commercial, and restructuring & insolvency.

Sophia completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP London with distinction. Following graduation, Sophia worked in the litigation group at the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, before joining the business development group at Slaughter and May.

 

  • Advising the nominee, and subsequently the supervisor, on an IVA for the UK’s “biggest bankrupt” and subsequently advising on a challenge application of the IVA made by a significant creditor
  • Advising the joint administrators of three SPV companies developing student apartment blocks on the sale of such developments and advising on the making of court applications pursuant to section 71 of the Insolvency Act 1986
  • Advising the joint administrators in a cross-border administration of an English law LLP
  • Advising a director in relation to an allegation of missing trader intra-community fraud
