Elon Musk gets football club’s goat over distinctly familiar SpaceX logo

A recent photo from Elon Musk’s astronautics company SpaceX included a crest comprising the white outline of a goat with a thin crescent moon behind. This appears to be almost identical to Scottish amateur football team Haddington Town FC’s goat badge. Nick Phillips recently spoke to The Times on the copyright implications of the apparent copying of the crest and whether they might have grounds to sue for copyright infringement.

Nick commented: “The first thing they [Haddington Town] would need to do is establish that they own the copyright of the badge or logo. The basic rule is the person who designed or created it would be the first owner of the copyright, so it might well be a question of getting that copyright assigned and transferred to Haddington Town.”
