Student & Child Student Visas

The Student visa, which replaced the former Tier 4 (General) Student visa, is designed for international students aged 16 and above who wish to study in the UK.

This is a points-based immigration route and requires sponsorship from an education provider holding a valid student sponsor licence.

Before issuing a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), the sponsoring institution must be satisfied that the applicant meets the necessary requirements. The CAS is a mandatory part of the visa application process. Applicants must also meet the relevant English language and financial requirements.

The duration of leave granted under this route will depend on the length of the course being studied. While the Student visa does not lead directly to settlement, eligible individuals may be able to switch to the Graduate visa upon completion of their studies.

Under the current rules, children aged 4 to 17 may apply under the Child Student route, which is tailored to younger students.

It is important to note that, as of 1 January 2024, the rules regarding Student dependants have changed significantly. Only certain students are now permitted to bring family members to accompany them in the UK.

Our Immigration team is well equipped to advise on the eligibility criteria, application process, and the impact of recent changes. If you are considering a Student visa for yourself or your dependants, please do not hesitate to contact us for further guidance and support.
