Family Settlement Visas

There are several family-based immigration routes that enable UK residents to be joined by their family members.

The most common route is the Spouse visa, which permits the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen, a person settled in the UK, an individual with leave under the EU Settlement Scheme, or someone with leave as a worker or businessperson under Appendix ECAA (formerly Turkish businesspersons), to apply to join them in the UK.

Applicants must meet all requirements set out under Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules. The most common reasons for refusal include failure to meet the financial requirement and the English language requirement. The current minimum income threshold has increased to £29,000 per annum.

Other family settlement categories include the Adult Dependant Relative visa, Parent of a Child visa, and Child of British Parent(s). Each route carries distinct eligibility criteria, and careful preparation and consideration of the circumstances is required when preparing an application under any of these categories.
