Lara Mardell
Lara is Of Counsel in the international private client team at Edwin Coe. She provides English legal and UK tax advice to individuals, particularly those with international connections. She considers it critical to focus on a client’s life goals, helping clients navigate the complex tax and succession rules which so often apply to international clients.
Lara joined Edwin Coe in 2024 having worked previously at BDB Pitmans, and prior to this was head of private client and trusts at Ogier in Hong Kong.
Lara advises individuals and professionals, including trustees, foreign lawyers and wealth managers, working with advisers in other jurisdictions if necessary to provide co-ordinated cross-border advice. Having extensive offshore experience, she often advises on structures established under non-UK laws, working with local lawyers as necessary.
Lara’s specialisms include:
- International estate planning: Advice on tax and succession, including advice on domicile, tax treaties and safeguarding assets.
- UK residence: The UK’s Statutory Residence Test and planning prior to arriving in or leaving the UK.
- International structures: UK tax advice to trustees and individuals in relation to trusts, private companies and foundations with an international element.
- UK residential real estate: Structuring and estate planning.
- Business assets: Estate planning involving business and agricultural assets.
- US trusts: UK advice in relation to US trust structures, working with US advisers as required.
