Hong Kong British National (Overseas)
(BN(O)) Visas
In response to the implementation of strict national security laws in Hong Kong in 2020, the UK Government introduced a new immigration route on 30 January 2021 for Hong Kong nationals holding British National (Overseas) status (BN(O)).
This visa category enables BN(O) status holders and their eligible dependants – including spouses, civil partners, and children – to reside in the UK for a period of up to 5 years.
All routes under this category provide a pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), subject to meeting the relevant criteria.
There are two sub-categories under the BN(O) route:
- BN(O) Status Holder; and
- BN(O) Household Member.
Each route carries distinct eligibility requirements, and careful consideration is required when preparing an application.
