EU Settlement Scheme Applications

Following the UK’s departure from the EU on 1 January 2021, a new points-based immigration system was introduced. From that date, EU nationals and their family members arriving in the UK became subject to the same immigration rules as non-EU nationals.
However, under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement, the UK committed to safeguarding the rights of EU/EEA citizens who were resident in the UK by 31 December 2020. The EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) was launched to provide eligible individuals with a route to secure their immigration status. Those living in the UK by the 31 December 2020 had until 30 June 2021 to apply under the EUSS.

The Home Office continues to accept late applications from individuals who were eligible but did not apply by the deadline. A reasonable explanation must be provided, and such applications require careful preparation and representation.

We continue to assist clients with late applications under the EUSS, particularly where individuals were unable to apply or were unaware of the requirement to apply. If you or a family member believe you may be eligible but have not yet applied to the scheme, our Immigration team is available to provide further advice and assistance.
