Skilled Worker Visas
The Skilled Worker visa enables both EU and non-EU nationals to take up employment in the UK, provided they have a job offer from a licensed sponsor.
To qualify, applicants must meet a minimum of 70 points, which are awarded for:
- Sponsorship by a licensed UK employer.
- A job at the appropriate skill level.
- Meeting the salary threshold.
- English language proficiency at level B1.
As of 22 July 2025, the general salary threshold has increased to £41,700 per year, or £17.13 per hour based on a 37.5-hour work week. Sponsors must ensure that roles meet this threshold or the “going rate” for the occupation—whichever is higher.
Certain applicants may benefit from reduced salary thresholds, including:
- Workers who have been continuously sponsored under the Skilled Worker route prior to 4 April 2024.
- New entrants to the labour market.
- Roles listed on the Immigration Salary List.
- Applicants with a PhD, particularly in STEM fields relevant to the role.
There are multiple pathways to meet the minimum salary threshold under the Skilled Worker route. These criteria are tradeable and may vary depending on factors such as age, qualifications, and the nature of the role.
Navigating role profiles, assessing salary requirements, and assigning Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) – whether defined or undefined – can be complex.
Our Immigration team regularly manages this process end-to-end for corporate clients, ensuring compliance and clarity at every stage. If you require strategic advice or hands-on support with the Skilled Worker visa, please contact our Immigration team.
