Hazel Johnson
Working on both sides of the profession means that she can provide clients with comprehensive tax advice drawing on both her legal and accountancy experience. She understands the client’s needs in a dynamic and fast-moving legislative environment to leverage efficiencies whilst mitigating risk.
Her significant experience includes advising non-UK domiciliaries on offshore trusts, various offshore structures such as Foundations, and the remittance basis regime, having navigated multiple legislative changes in these areas. Her client portfolio has featured Greek shipping families, Chinese and Indian family groups, US technology entrepreneurs, and Norwegian families with interests in oil and diverse industries.
Hazel has also supported UK-based entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses throughout their lifecycle – from start-ups and securing external investment, through to exit planning (including substantial shareholding exemption and trade sales), as well as succession strategies involving family investment companies and onshore trusts.
More recently, she has developed particular expertise in the taxation of digital assets.
Additionally, Hazel provides support to colleagues with tax dispute matters.
In her tax practice, Hazel advises high-net-worth and UK and non-UK based individuals, families, and trustees on:
- Offshore trusts and other structuring.
- Exit planning and structuring for sale or passing assets to the next generation.
- Cross-border taxation and double tax treaties.
She joined the Tax team at Edwin Coe in November 2022.
