Nick qualified as a solicitor in 1985 and worked for Nabarro Nathanson for 5 years. In 1992, Nick joined Reid Minty as a Partner, where he stayed for 16 years. He joined Edwin Coe as a Partner in 2008.

Nick specialises in commercial litigation, defamation and employment law. He has worked on many high-profile cases for companies, individuals, unions, charities and trusts. These have included numerous injunctive proceedings and search orders. Nick is a Court approved supervising solicitor for search orders. He has handled almost every type of dispute, including between directors, shareholders, partners and beneficiaries, complex contract and fraud claims. He also acts for a number of bailiff firms. His defamation work involves claims against most of the high-profile newspapers and magazines, as well as between individuals.

  • Vetabet Holdings Ltd v Tedcom Finance Ltd – Acting for the claimants in arbitration proceedings in the LCIA and ancillary multi-jurisdictional proceedings (Cyprus, Holland and Russia) concerning disputed control of the Vitino Oil Port. This matter involves a high-profile banker, Mr Ablyazov. The dispute is between the shareholders of the Vitino Port with allegations of fraud by both parties.
  • BTA Bank JSC – M. Ablyazov – In addition, we acted for Usarel Investments Ltd in one of the major Ablyazov litigation cases commenced by BTA Bank in London. This involved a 12 week trial (which started in Nov 2012) in which BTA Bank sought judgment against Mr Ablyazov for approximately $6bn. The Bank also sought damages of $120m plus interest against Usarel and a proprietor claim over its assets which is the Vitino Oil Port in Murmansk. Multi-jurisdictional proceedings (Cyprus, Holland and Russia).
  • Advised on a Shareholder dispute with allegations of fraud involving English law arbitration in the International Chamber of Commerce and Stockholm Chamber of Commerce with ancillary proceedings in Cyprus where a receiver was appointed.
  • Acting for a Ukrainian shareholder in connection to a shareholder dispute relating to Frunze, a major Ukrainian company. Main points include:
    • Cross border jurisdiction
    • Effect of European Community law (EU Regulations).
  • Advised on this much publicised matter involved bringing a case for defamation on behalf of police officer, Gary Flood, against The Times newspaper. In the article The Times had accused DS Flood of taking bribes from Russian exiles. The matter was complicated by the fact that the printed article in question was kept on the paper’s website in an electronic form after DS Flood had been exonerated. Gary Flood was awarded substantial damages for the website publications as well as all his costs. The Times is seeking permission to appeal cost order.
