Artificial Intelligence Legal Issues
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a broad and dynamic field that encompasses technologies enabling machines to perform tasks that previously required human intelligence. From machine learning to robotics, AI is transforming industries and creating new possibilities for how we work, live, and interact with the world.
As AI technologies evolve, so too does the legal landscape governing their development and use. We advise clients on new emerging laws, regulations and guidelines related to AI technologies as well as on the application of existing laws, regulations and guidelines to AI technologies in order to help our clients manage the issues and challenges raised by the use of AI in business.
This includes advising clients on:
- Compliance with data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR when using AI technologies which capture and use personal data, such as AI-driven surveillance technologies.
- Conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) to identify and mitigate privacy risks.
- Ownership of IP, including copyright and trade marks in AI-generated works.
- Infringement of third party IP relating to use of content generated by AI tools.
- Protecting AI technologies and algorithms.
- Licensing and use of AI technologies, ensuring that AI tools and technologies are properly licensed and the terms of third party-licenses for AI software are complied with.
- International AI laws and regulations, including developing and deploying AI products in compliance with the EU’s AI Act.
- Use of AI in the workplace, including using AI in hiring and in employee monitoring.
- Compliance issues and risks relating to use of AI tools in business.
- Developing an AI strategy and drafting policies in support of the strategy.
