CILA Annual conference 2015
Head of Litigation, Michael Whitton, and Insurance Litigation partner, Roger Franklin, will be speaking at the The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) annual conference taking place on Tuesday 15 September 2015 at The Midland Hotel, Peter Street, Manchester, M60 2DS.
This one day event by CILA is dedicated to insurance claims expertise. It is a flagship event in the Institute calendar and provides a special opportunity for members and other claims professionals to explore and openly debate the latest developments to impact the handling of claims.
Michael and Roger will be hosting a session entitles “Insurance Act 2015”. This session will review the Insurance Act 2015 and explore key points for policyholders, both at inception and settlement.

BACKGROUND
The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters Special Interest Groups
CILA created Special Interest Groups (SIG) in 2005. The purpose was to enable all its members to be associated with those who are practising in, and have expertise in, one of the 11 specialist claims areas.

Edwin Coe have been active in the field of insurance litigation for over thirty years, specialising in representing claimants in the pursuit of insured and uninsured losses. Michael Whitton, Head of Litigation & Insurance at Edwin Coe is actively involved in all the SIG activities.
Edwin Coe’s role in the Claimant SIG is to provide support to the members of the SIG in the work they do in representing insureds in the preparation, presentation and settlement of their claims against insurers. Edwin Coe are available to advise members and their clients on all aspects of the claims process including policy interpretation, the enforceability of warranties and conditions precedent to liability, avoidance issues arising in relation to non-disclosure and technical aspects of quantifying claims. Speakers
Michael is head of both the Insurance Litigation Group as well as the Commercial Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. He read law at Cambridge University, qualified as a solicitor in 1986 with a City firm, joined Edwin Coe in 1987 and became a partner in 1990.
Michael deals principally with claimant insurance litigation and specialises in liability and coverage disputes arising from fires, floods, thefts and other perils. His practice also includes areas such as professional negligence, directors’ and officers’ liability and under-insurance issues and he has a particular expertise in business interruption claims.

Roger practices in Commercial Litigation, specialising in Insurance law. Roger qualified in 1999 and became a partner in 2005. He has acted on disputes in the UK, Europe and the United States. He has represented both claimants and defendants in a wide variety of commercial insurance matters, including professional negligence, directors’ and officers’ liability, shareholder claims and general liability and coverage disputes.
Roger also represents financial services professionals on discrete aspects of the regulatory regime, and acts for firms and individuals in the course of FCA investigations and enforcement proceedings.
