Tax Assistant Manager – Tax Team
Job Title: Tax Assistant Manager (CTA qualified/part-qualified)
Reporting to: Tax Partner
Direct reports: Tax Manager or Tax Senior Manager
Hours: 9am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday with additional hours as required.
Location: Current guidelines are that subject to business (client and team) needs, you may work from home up to 50% of each week, otherwise in our offices at Lincoln’s Inn WC2A
Key responsibilities:
- Assisting with the tax compliance process with a view to managing a portfolio of clients. This would include, for example, preparation/first review of personal returns, trust returns and tax filings in connection with CGT, ATED and IHT.
- Assisting with aspects of UK tax reporting in general, including drafting ‘white space’ disclosures, and input regarding residence issues.
- Data analysis, including use of excel spreadsheets to analyse data and produce computations.
- Prime document review – undertake detailed reviews of client prime documents, highlight concerns and areas of clarification, prepare synopsis of issues and steps to remedy.
- Undertaking research on specific areas of UK tax legislation, HMRC practice, and relevant case law.
- Whilst the role will primarily focus on compliance, there will be opportunities to assist with tax advisory reports/letters/memos/emails to be delivered to Tax Managers, Senior Manager and/or Tax Partners.
- Client and third-party services provider management – attendance at meetings, taking instructions in writing or verbally, resolving and answering client or third-party service provider questions.
- Assisting with the preparation of marketing materials and liaison with the marketing team on production of copy and documents for external use.
- General assistance to entire team, as required.
- To provide high levels of client service at all times.
Skills, experience and attributes:
- Educated to degree level, minimum of 2:1, preferably Bsc or BA
- CTA qualified (part-qualified CTA will be considered)
- Experience of the UK tax compliance process, including exposure to a small portfolio of clients. Experience of tax return preparation and ideally, completing first reviews of tax returns.
- Experience of preparing tax advisory reports – ideally with an Owner Managed Businesses (OMB) focus.
- Experience with international issues for private clients also desirable, including the utilisation of non-UK structures for UK resident and non-resident clients.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
- Highly organised.
- Strong IT skills (in particular Excel).
