Job Title: Senior Associate

Reporting to: Head of Construction

Direct reports: n/a (but this is a mentoring and supervisory role)

Location: Current guidelines are that subject to business (client and team) needs, you may work from home up to 50% of each week, otherwise in our offices at Lincoln’s Inn WC2A

 

This role will sit within Edwin Coe’s Construction Team which is part of the larger Property Team.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage a varied caseload of contentious and/or non-contentious matters.
  • Draft relevant documents, letters and correspondence tailored to the client’s individual needs and requirements.
  • Correspond with clients and opposing solicitors, attend meetings and negotiate with opposing parties.
  • Assist supervising partner as required.
  • Proactively seek business development opportunities and build relationships with clients and potential clients.
  • Undertake administrative tasks such as completing timesheets and finalising bills for client work in a timely manner, and within Firm guidelines.
  • Keep up to date with changes and developments in the law by reading journals and law reports.

Undertake a range of continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure continuous learning and up to date knowledge.

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Previous extensive experience of both contentious and/or non-contentious construction work including:
    • drafting and negotiating all manner of construction documentation, including construction contracts, professional appointments, development agreements, construction aspects of agreements for lease, guarantees, bonds and collateral warranties; and/or
    • undertaking adjudication, arbitration, mediation and/or litigation.
  • Experience with the Building Safety Fund and the Developer Remediation Contract desirable, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the Building Safety Act desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong drafting skills, with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong client relationship skills.
  • Outstanding organisational abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage a plethora of matters concurrently.
  • Able to prioritise a busy workload and delegate as appropriate.
  • Proven business development activities and ability to generate new work. Ability to bring a small following would be ideal.
  • Able to work as an integral part of the construction team as well with team members in other groups in the firm delegating work where possible to more junior members of the team.
  • Proven judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Proven resilience.
