Blog Alert! Nurses Update – Shortage Occupation List

As a result of pressure from the Royal College of Nursing, the independent Migration Advisory Committee has recommended that Nursing jobs are once again to be listed on the UK Government’s Shortage Occupation List, but only on an interim basis. The Committee whose job is to advise the government on migration issues, is to report on the effect of these changes in February 2016. If an occupation is listed on the Shortage occupation list, the job does not need to be advertised in the UK. This can enable hospitals and other employers needing nurses to fill nursing posts speedily.

Whilst there is a restrictive monthly quota as to how many Certificates of Sponsorships the Home Office can issue to sponsors, being on the shortage occupation list does mean that nursing jobs will be given priority when the Home Office carries out the assessment in issuing these Certificates to Sponsors.
