The Training Contract

The two-year training contract is divided into four six month seats in the following practice areas:

  • Commercial Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Corporate and Commercial
  • Employment Law
  • Insolvency & Restructuring
  • Insurance Litigation
  • Private Client
  • Property

Whilst there is inevitably high demand to be seated in some areas, we seek to give you as much scope as possible to shape the direction of your contract.

Edwin Coe LLP is committed to helping trainees to develop into competent and confident solicitors. The opportunity for ‘hands-on’ involvement, including managing your own files is therefore built into a supportive framework.

Upon joining the Firm you will be provided with a mentor partner to challenge and support you through the duration of your training contract. Your mentor will act as a confidential advisor to support and stimulate professional and personal development.

Throughout your training period, there will be a continuous process of two-way feedback. You will have a formal appraisal at the end of each seat which will help you to track your progress and enable you to discuss any particular strengths and weaknesses with your supervisors.

Each seat guarantees you:

  • close supervision by a partner or senior solicitor;
  • responsibility and client contact;
  • high quality, interesting work;
  • the opportunity to be part of a team;

A trainee describes their experience:

"As a trainee I quickly learned to cope with the pressures of responsibility, time management and hard work. I found that the Firm’s genuine open-door policy meant I was always able to ask for help or advice when I needed it."
