Hotel & Leisure Practice

Examples of our work:

  • Edwin Coe has been involved in many hotel and leisure projects throughout the UK and internationally, working with hoteliers, publicans, restaurateurs, investors, casinos, catering and events companies.
  • The property group recently acted on the purchase and financing of three large UK hotels; the purchase of a number of budget hotels as investments; and the purchase of a portfolio of public houses.
  • Our employment group advises a number of clients within the hotel/leisure sector. Examples of their work include advising on employment issues in relation to the change of a casino owner/licensee; the purchase of one of London’s premium hotels; the dismissal of a ‘signature’ chef from a restaurant; and the day to day employment operations of a 5-star apartment rental business.
  • A significant amount of our work is in relation to sales and acquisitions, and in recent years the corporate group has worked on the £17million disposal of one of the most successful independent casinos in England to a public company; on the disposal of hotels both in the UK and Egypt; and on the sale and purchase of a substantial London restaurant group.
  • The litigation group acts for various companies operating hotel and condominiums in Barbados in a claim across many jurisdictions in relation to a multi-million pound fraud by a director. The Group also recently acted for the Chief Executive of a high-profile UK hotel group in relation to allegations concerning his conduct as a Director.
  • Recent resturcturing work includes acting on the administration of a restaurant/nightclub group and conducting the sale of each of the two types of businesses to separate buyers (one of which was the pre-existing management team); and acting on the insolvency of a partnership of licensed tenants and a breach of their lease, effecting a recovery of dilapidations and liquidated losses.
