Nick Giles

Following completion of a 6 year term as Managing Partner of Edwin Coe and 40 years as a law firm partner, Nick stepped down as a partner in March 2019 to become an active consultant within the firm.

Over the years, Nick has amassed a wealth of experience in looking after families, owner managed businesses and individuals from all walks of life.  He has acted for many of his clients for 25 years or more and to whom Nick is their trusted advisor.

Nick is also responsible for the Intestacy team within the Private Client department.  The work involves acting on estates that have come into the Public Sector for one reason or another where the deceased has not left a Will and, often, has no known relatives. These estates are often complex and can throw up some novel issues. Special programmes have been developed to deal with the complicated distribution of the estates once they have been realised.

Nick has been involved with many charities over the years and is currently a trustee of a substantial grant making foundation, as well as being the clerk to a religious order and a trustee of charities involved in the education of children in Africa and medical research into hypertension.

Although now classified as a consultant, Nick continues to act for his existing clients and to take on any new work that they wish to give to him.  In addition to his work at Edwin Coe, Nick helps to run a firm of genealogists and is an active trustee in assessing the grants to be made by the charitable foundation of which he is the trustee.

  • Co-ordinated the sale of a multi-million pound property portfolio held in an SPV owned by clients.
  • Dealing with the partitioning of family interests in a property company controlled by various settlements, including the termination of one of the settlements.
